Current Employee - Prospective Student Coach  in  Portland, OR
Current Employee - Prospective Student Coach in Portland, OR

Pros

- Great initial training, with excellent trainer
- Good benefits for single, healthy people
- Excellent holiday/vacation package
- Amazing office space
- Fresh blood in the senior leadership has helped the company mature substantially.

The coaching role is a great way to either a) settle in if you know coaching students is what you want to do long-term or b) learn how to navigate a corporate environment that still has a heart, and become a rockstar communicator.

Cons

Management can be incompetent at times. Many line managers were promoted either out of necessity or because they were good coaches, which doesn't mean they are good managers

The more veteran senior leadership has no idea what it's like to do the coach's job, and despite their attempts to figure it out this year (2011), have not been successful. There is a lack of trust in the leadership team among the coaches

Leadership takes extensive time with some decisions, but gives knee-jerk reactions to others. Lacks consistency

Advice to ManagementAdvice

We are not your children, and you are not our parents. We may be a "youthful" company but we are all adults and wish you'd treat us as such.

Move some of the dinosaurs out the door, they are holding the company back

    Pros

InsideTrack provides a place to work that aligns with my passion for education. The culture is lively, and full of amazing people, who are, for the most part, excited to be in the role that they are in. Also, our offices are amazing, with some of the best views in Portland!

    Cons

It's hard to find a mission driven or non-profit organization that provides a comfortable living compensation, and that's one downfall of working at InsideTrack. Also, there can sometimes be an 'us vs. them' mentality within the coaches, which could be cleared up with more questions/conversations and less assumptions about changes to policy and work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to listen to coaches concerns, and let's continue to build relationships across campuses and job titles. When employees have the chance to interact more on a regular basis there will be more understanding of each others' roles, and how we are all working towards the same mission.

    Pros

The onboarding process is efficient and helpful, lots of professional development focus, and it's a growth company so there is substantial opportunity for advancement.

    Cons

The whole company is very "mission driven." The level of idealism is sometimes way too high, since the business is basically a high end call center. Different accounts are often VERY different.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Move the corporate HQ from San Francisco to Portland, The vast majority of company is based in Portland, but senior leadership is in SF. That seems silly and costly.
