Pros

Experience of the organization depends a lot on which division the employee is in. Some divisions have very rewarding positions.

Cons

High turnover. Too often work-life balance values are not upheld. Salaries sometimes not competitive.

    Pros

Good networking opportunities. Good exposure to interesting individuals at an international level.

    Cons

Head of this organization is surprisingly unaware of the struggles of underrepresented groups in higher education. More often than not I found myself being the only minority at higher management events. Program officers and general offices are VERY diverse but upper, UPPER, management (the people that are really running this organization) is not.
This organization treats volunteers as subordinates and does not offer any gratitude other than a "Thank you, and have a nice day."
    Turnover rate is very high.

    Advice to Management

    I am at a loss!
I guess I would tell them to really listen to employees and volunteers. They are the heart of the program. Don't pretend that you are listening and blindly nodding your head (like I have seen so many times). Upper management is not better than them (although many managers seem to think so). Program officers know more about what's going on so let them make some changes once in a while to simplify things. Change things up once in a while so that the paperwork doesn't crush their spirit. The turnover rate will probably diminish. Treat your volunteers properly. They are working without pay!
