    Pros

Lots of big name clients. A great place to build experience by touching a lot of big brands. Insanely creative people and overall a very good work/life balance. Sr. Management for their part, really do care about their people. They go the extra mile to reward and celebrate performance, fun, and big wins. Brilliant Creative staff. Fantastic Insight & Strategy group.

    Cons

Top heavy. There seem to be a lot of people in the VP and Group Director level working round-the-clock to justify their existence. Account Service department seems to have a lot of dead weight. Slow to terminate conic weak-performers. Interactive department underfunded and not fully integrated into the creative team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work to remove the obstacles that get in the way of great work. Too many managers = too much red tape. Slim down on VP's and Group Directors—invest in Jr. & mid-level employees with interactive &/or bi-lingual capabilities. Buy an interactive agency now. Buy a hispanic agency in 2-years. These are things clients demand that we are not properly staffed to fulfill.

    Pros

You'll gain experience in the field. You'll have an opportunity to work hard. There is a lot of drinking and partying. You'll be able to see and experience the seamy side of corporate politics up close. Learn from it. It's an important skill to develop.

    Cons

Others will take credit for your work. You'll need to work to the point of exhaustion and to the detriment of your personal life and sometimes health.

While life isn't fair - and there is really no guarantee of fairness in any field, the blatant disregard for the established, published rules of conduct by members of the senior staff is astonishing. Remember, always, that the HR department's fundamental reason to exist is to protect the company - not the employee.

It is more important to those in charge for them to protect their power base than to put forward the best work for their clients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look past the hype of your own marketing. Saying it does not make it so.
