I have been working at Intel Corporation full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Pay is good for education level required. Benefits are very good. Sabbatical is a great benefit.

Cons

No raises greater than 2.5% in the past 12 years despite multiple years of record revenue. New hires come in at 30-50% higher salary than existing employees. No career advancement opportunity if in Engineering/Manufacturing (transfers out of the department are not allowed). Engineers and technicians are expected to work through their all of their breaks everyday.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensate loyal employees at least as well as new hires. Actually enforce safety, especially ergonomic safety. Don't expect non-exempt employees to not take a break, the pressure to violate labor law in order to be successful should not exist. When employees go back to school for degrees that are in demand in the company let them transfer. Telling them they cannot transfer until 18-24 months after graduation (conveniently after RCG status expires) is not acceptable, especially when the employee paid for the degree themselves because it's not an engineering degree.

I have been working at Intel Corporation as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

As a contractor I am paid a decent hourly rate. Not enough to make up for lacking any basic benefits such as paid sick days though.
Some managers will let you work from home.
Intel looks great on your resume.

    Cons

Green badges (contractors) are treated as second class citizens. This is very poor for morale. Also, most contractors get no benefits at all. Even paid sick days. So they work when sick and feel punished when holidays roll around. Poor communication from the top and vague objectives leads unnecessary iterations and rushed timelines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Intel attracts many talented programmers and it is a shame to see them leave for jobs that provide basic things like paid sick days. Due to the turnaround of people code is fragile and unreadable at best.
