Current Employee - Component Design Engineer in Santa Clara, CA

I have been working at Intel Corporation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    -Cutting edge technology
-Best in industry in CPU design
-Top class products with Core,Xeon and Xeon Phi.
    -Stability
    -Easy to move across teams
-Some really smart folks, especially in Arch, RTL and Circuits
-New CEO is extremely bold, willing to make radical changes to transform the corporation into SoC design and try out new areas and ventures
-Good place for new folks to learn as much as they can
    - Well poised to gain mobile traction in the upcoming years
    -Open environment, good work-life balance

    Cons

-Too big, sometimes you feel like a dot in a painting
-Risk-taking, some groups are slightly averse to this idea, but the new CEO seems better than predecessor at this.
-Lot of old folks, in dire need of some young blood in the company especially in Santa Clara
-Growth opportunities might be limited if you are in a team with too many old-timers
-Pay is not great in Santa Clara, if you start comparing Intel to Apple, sometimes causing the company to struggle to retain top talent but on par with Nvidia and better than Qualcomm
-Politics is prevalent at 2nd level managers and above
-Afraid to fire ppl who are crap
-Raises are lower than rest of industry, but good bonus and decent stock options
-Workplace is rather dull. Grey everywhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Be bold. Take strategic risky moves with strategic OEMs. Already see this happening. Would like to see more.
-Increase base pay and benefits in Santa Clara. Below par when compared to rest of Silicon Valley like Apple, and Google. We barely match Nvidia although we do better products. Pay + Incentive system needs to be revamped. Start doing focal every quarter or two quarters.
-Give better raises and benefits to retain talent. There has been attrition need to stop that immediately.
-Don't be afraid to fire slouchers. There are some ppl in the company who don't know what they are doing after 20+ years. Why are they even here?
-Start doing free dinners. Food is not that subsidized in cafeteria. Ppl work late and they are desperate for something to munch.
