A tech hobbyist's wet dream, but red tape and top-heaviness weighing on morale.

I have been working at Intel Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

- Intel takes care of its employees and has unmatched integrity and ethics in Silicon Valley. Genuine belief in doing the "right thing."
- Work/life balance and flexibility. Not uncommon for folks to dash out midday for an errand, to take care of kids, etc. People work hard, but most managers supportive of choice of when work is done.
- Truly cutting edge technology; company makes a difference in lives around the world with the advancement of Moore's Law (unlike, let's face it, social media companies)
- Excellent health benefits, sabbatical every 7 years
- Smart, humble, and ethical colleagues. They're the #1 reason why I'm still here, as others have said.

Cons

- Salary increases have been modest to immaterial last few years
- Way too many managers doing nothing but sending e-mails and having meetings and getting nothing of substance done vs. actually managing, coaching, and prioritizing work for their employees.
- Decision-making is bogged down by endless reviews and infinite matrices of stakeholders who "need to be aligned"
- Culture of entitlement and laziness from employees from the glory PC years of the 1990's who are fat and happy and not motivated to truly tackle the complexities of the world today
- In finance, way too many employees fighting for too little work, slowing everyone down and creating a culture of territorialism and little fiefdoms

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Truly flatten the organization, especially in finance/G&A. There's not nearly enough work to go around, especially as senior finance management continues to build empires by fattening the headcount of their orgs. Evaluate managers based on how they manage, not their individual contributor contributions. Get rid of the deadweight. Intel is a step or two away from being a great place to work ('GPTW') but needs to seriously re-mold itself for the post-PC era.
