Former Employee - Design Component Engineer in Santa Clara, CA
Former Employee - Design Component Engineer in Santa Clara, CA

I worked at Intel Corporation full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Got opportunity to work and get involve in new or current leading technologies in the computing industry.

Cons

Projects are huge and tasks are divided into too small making visibility of the whole project or architecture very short sighted. Big pictures are only available to very few. Plus it is cutthroat in getting good tasks or assignments. And then if you are unlucky, have to contend with managers that don't have any respect to the engineers that work for them.

    Pros

Great benefits, great pay if you are lucky

    Cons

Horrible management, very cliquey, corruptness, no support for employees in time of need. All this is my assessment and opinion but not a great place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shape it up and be honest and quit lying to get your way.

Caveat Emptor -- the lowdown from a Senior Application Developer

I have been working at Intel Corporation full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

-I really don't notice any sexism.
-Most people are fairly profession in terms of conduct.
-Brand Recognition for your next job (which will hopefully pay you what you deserve...see the cons below).
-Free Coffee and fruit..? Uhhh. LOL
-Decent training opportunities (unless your management is blowing it all on booze and girls in developing countries...)
-Good discount, especially on Intel products and things to distract you from how meaningless your work is at Intel.

    Cons

-Below average pay for often intense work. Supporting Moore's law ain't easy!
-Speaking of pay: just know that fairly soon after they hire you at the lowest price possible, they will offer 10k more to recent college graduates ( "RCGs") even if they are lesser skilled, can't hold a conversation, and are deathly afraid of giving a presentation on the work they just did
-The culture is declining... not what it used to be. Egalitarianism looks good on paper and most everyone in the offices is in a cubicle... Don't drink the Kool Aid just yet, Voice a dissenting opinion and get the one lasting aspect of Intel culture "disagree and commit!"
-Other than Moore's law (which will slowly grind to a halt due to heat issues and the fact that as the technology shrinks to near the atomic level, the transistors will no longer work because as dictated by quantum physics (google the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle) the electrons that guide the current may appear on either side of the transistor gate.
-Focal is the yearly review process in which employees who are your so-called friends backstab you and management gives a promotion to the person with the brownest nose (aka kissing a__"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

See cons. You need to fix this. Invest in the young folks (RCGs) but don't short change your skilled staffers!! It's easier to keep the people you have than get new ones!"
