Good company in the 1990s and 2000s. Internal high level politics not visible to outside world resulting in instability.

I worked at Intel Corporation full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Undeniably the best company to start one's career... Many opportunities to learn, move to different type of responsibilities, great pay and compensation, etc.

Cons

Of late, not being able to get a foot hold in the low power market has started a large chess game type internal politics where pawn sacrifices are being made with the hope of long term prospects... It appears however it might be too late. Hopefully it will not end up the Motorola way.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Portland is the big gorilla, and to save the empire in Portland, dont systematically kill the smaller sites, and steal their projects away. It might help save the jobs of those in Portland for 5 more years, but might hurt Intel beyond repair. (But who knows, maybe the upper management there plans to retire after 5 years so they dont care!!)

    Pros

Easy to move laterally and try new things
    Great benefits
Generally supportive of work-life balance (at least in theory)
Work with many brilliant minds, can learn a lot, some great role models

    Cons

In order to really compete, sometimes its necessary to put in a lot of hours
Lack of focus (many times the expectation is to work on so many things that you get spread really thin)
A lot of re-orgs (especially lately)
