I worked at Intellisphere full-time for more than a year

Pros

Good for entry-level positions into a market especially for Pharma-Sales and Editors careers. Even if you dont report to management directly, Owner will come up and interrogate you. It helps to have a manager have you back and most will. Managers and the co-workers are very helpful and will help you anytime. During your average day you will be glad you joined because of the co-workers.

Cons

Management is unstructured as it is a Private Company (Owner holds you by the B@!!5) and Sales commission is very low (make sure you get your commission before you get fired). Leave before 5:15pm, that when Owners does the rounds. Make sure that you have a remote setup to do your work 24/7 if you want to keep up.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat people like you want to be treated. Sometimes just providing a paycheck is not enough.

    I worked at Intellisphere

    Pros

Intellisphere is a well structured organization that thrives where few others do within the publishing industry. The management team provides alot of structure for less seasoned hires mostly recent college graduates. Through daily written and oral reporting from every sales person, the management team keeps very tight control over operations. For someone who needs alot of hand holding, this environment provides a good learning environment in which new hires can launch their sales careers.

    Cons

This same environment at Intellisphere is less than ideal for more seasoned employees. The structure provides too much overhead for managers, and it demonstrates a lack of respect for employees with more experience. Furthermore, senior management often does respect work-life balance as they will not hesitate to call employees off hours and on weekends to discuss things that should be left to be discussed during normal work hours. The sales team is also required to start work at 7:30AM each weekday morning, and management keeps attendance records of all sales people. Despite work/life balance needs, they do not respect these personal obligations as demonstrated by their ban on any vacation time between Labor Day weekend and December 31st.

As a privately held company, the owner has placed his children in senior management roles which one would expect. However, these individuals are not held to the same strict rules in which the rest of the sales must follow. This behaviour sets a bad example, reduces morale and clear promotes an atmosphere of favoratism that is harmful to the work environment.

Finally and perhaps most alarming, the way the company operates seems to be less than open and honest. A few examples comes to mind. First of all, several of us were hired for certain roles with certain responsibilities only to have them changed within days after we arrived. Furthermore, they started changing around compensation packages effectively reducing our pay without much discussion. Also, all sales people must pay out of pocket for travel and entertainment expenses. Aside from the considerable cash outlay, often times the management team does not reimburse us in full identifying petty charges and deducting them from pay without discussion. They also create a lag of a few weeks before reimbursing us whereby they control the cash flow by effectively delaying repayment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I strongly recommend to the management team that they rethink their approach to running the sales operations. After this experience, I would never work at Intellisphere nor recommend them as an employer of choice to anyone. The secretive and manipulating environment you have created may work well for new hires who do not know any better. However for those of us who have been around, these practices are unacceptable and would never be tolerated at most other companies. It's a shame, because you have the potential to create a much better environment where coming to work would be a pleasure.

    Pros

None the job steals your soul

    Cons

If you want to be constantly bullied, have your family life disregarded, work alongside everyone in the company that is a director (they just keep promoting you and dont bump your salary), and give in to the ridiculous demands of the owner than work here!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None - this company is horrible and that is how they like it. Its a hobby for him and a place for his kids to feel important
