I worked at InterContinental Hotels Group full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Flexible with my school schedule. Pretty laid back atmosphere. Once you got the job done, you kind of just hung out... I was able to do homework which was nice as I was a full time student at a university while employed there.

Cons

Sometimes was under staffed. Housekeeping wasn't always great which in turn caused angry guests and poor reviews of hotel. Older hotel so doesn't have elevator. That was the biggest complaint I would receive while working there.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Had a great manager. Sometimes maybe too much of a friend and not enough of a boss but a lot of people probably wouldn't see that as a problem.

Uttlerly clueless IT management, mediocre talent, horrible backstabbing culture

I have been working at InterContinental Hotels Group full-time

    Pros

Reasonable pay, flexible work/life balance. The hotel brand portfolio is very strong and the company has robust and stable financials. Most of the non-IT staff seem to be fairly sane and reasonable.

    Cons

IT has been mismanaged for so long at this company that complete dysfunction has set in at multiple levels. Project implementations are an unstructured free for all, with a game of musical chairs at the end to determine which team is scapegoated for the failures. To his credit, the new CIO seems to be genuinely trying to fix things, but it looks to be a long, hard slog.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a huge dearth of talent in IT at all levels. Don't just assume that a multi-year tenure at the company is some sort of badge of excellence.

    Pros

They are very customer service oriented, great training, overall good company to work for.

    Cons

They aren't the best, and even their most luxurious hotels wouldn't compare to a lot that's out ther. However, they are very decently priced, so people like that, you just get a different crowd than you would if you were somewhere more upscale. Some people like that though.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure that the hotels representing IHG are in fact living up to the name!
