InterContinental Hotels – “Pros & Cons for IHG

Pros

Most depts at IHG have a flexible supportive work schedule. Summer hours offer a 1/2 day off each week by working 4 10 hour days. In good years, the bonus program is wonderful, in bad years it doesn't exist. The office space at Ravinia is very nice with a shuttle to Perimeter and Marta.

Cons

As a foreign owned company, it can be hard to get big decisions made to keep the company nimble. It is a very conservative company. New managers aren't trained to be good managers and incompetence is allowed to continue. It is tough to move among departments and up the ladder. Office politics and "clicks" can cause roadblocks in getting work done which is disappointing.

Advice to Senior Management

New managers/ directors need better training and coaching. Cross functional training or job shadowing would help employees gain a stronger understanding of other departments and the company as a whole. Communication from senior management could be better. 360 reviews would help in situations where poor managers aren't trained to grow employees and give helpful feedback.
