InterContinental Hotels – “Good place to work with opportunities to advance at hotel level

Jul 7, 2008

4.0

InterContinental Hotels Banquet and Catering Manager in Bozeman, MT:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Discounted hotel rooms, I was given opportunities to advance at my hotel. Time off was very flexible. Fun staff and atmosphere. 401K was excellent, so was health insurance.

Cons

I wasn't given opportunities to advance within IHG. Some of the programs and classes they did were extremely cheesy especially the People Notice program. It seems they spent a lot of money on it and that all you really needed to do was to hire the right people. No vision of dental insurance.

Advice to Senior Management

Need to come up with new training programs that aren't cheesy and boring. 90% of the stuff in People Notice is all common sense "Be nice to the guests". Need to provide a avenue for people to advance their careers throughout IHG. I feel IHG needs to get with the times. This isn't the 70s and 80s anymore, use some focus groups of the younger generations to find out what they want from a hotel. Although I have seen some changes recently, Holiday Inn updating bedding packages and signage. It seems though that IHG, especially Holiday INN is always behind the curve in future trends.
