Exciting working place with lots of challenging R&D projects going at any one time

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
San Jose, CA

ProsChallenging R&D projects from very different industries, such as semiconductor manufacturing, photovoltaics, LED, and glass coatings at any one time.
Team of talented people possessing rare combination of excellent technical and presentation skills, who are also dedicated to customer satisfaction.
Excellent opportunity for self-motivated brilliant young employees to establish themselves and gain project management, marketing, and customer management experiences within relatively short time.
Relatively less bureacratic than big established companies.

ConsThe R&D service business model makes it very difficult to know whether your work will really be used in customer's production, and how it will be used if it is being used.
Lack of manufacturing access will make it harder for fresh college graduates to gain the systematic training needed to understand customer's needs and concerns.

Advice to Senior ManagementStreamline the command chain, reduce the overhead, focus on establishing core competency, be fair in promotion, and be open minded on criticism.
