    I have been working at International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers

    Pros

    The Pay and benefits are great when you are working. The training you receive during the apprenticeship is beyond compare.

    Cons

    IBEW = I'm Broke Each Week, only true when trying to make it on unemployment or pay for healthcare when your bennies run out.
    IBEW = It'll Be Ed's Way.
    Trying to SALT on nonunion contractors to make ends meet during long periods of unemployment.
    Nepotism in hiring practices at all levels from the International to local levels.
    The CE/CW program being used by contractors to circumvent JW wages and benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    LIsten to your younger recently elected BA's. They still have their fingers on the pulse of the members. Sr management worries about signing up more people to increase per captia while the current rank and file worry about making ends meet. To include putting food on the table! Let alone coming up with the $ to go sign book 2 in other locals. Revamp the book 2 sign procedures in this computer age brothers should not need to spend 100's of dollars in book signing tours. This money could be putting food on the table or paying bills!

    I have been working at International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers

    Pros

    Union pride. Some flexibility in your work. Decent pay compared to non-union. Support from organized labor.

    Cons

    Work isn't steady, worried often about unemployment running out. Benefits sometimes run out and my kids lose their health insurance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Better cohesive policies about health care and benefit coverage. Reduce nepotism. Improve availability of work for brothers and sisters in the union.
