I worked at International Center for Research on Women as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Working with influential people in public health sector at a well-respected D.C./global think tank; amazing work experience; great experience working in a busy communications office

    Cons

Unpaid interns; Portfolio's work in silos; FT employees don't really care to engage with you (with the exception of members of senior management ironically!); very competitive

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get mid-level management to be more engaged. That's where I felt there was a lot of competition/hostility.

I worked at International Center for Research on Women

    Pros

Subject matter is inspiring. The researchers and programmatic staff are passionate and knowledgeable about their areas of work. They were super sweet and never rude unlike some of the other staff members. Flexible working schedule.

    Cons

Leadership is clueless. Business development and communications is a mess. The organization does not how to stay relevant and ahead of the curve. If you're not in the president's "nice list," you'll probably never be respected or taken seriously.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change is good and there's no moving forward without taking some risks.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
