Not a competitive salary, but phenomenal company benefits (health, dental, 401k, etc...)

I worked at International Data Group full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The best reason hands down is that IDG hires some of the smartest folks in the publishing industry, regardless of specific department. They also carry some of the BEST medical coverage and numerous other perks (commuter checks, 37.5 hour work week, training & education, technology purchase program...)

    Cons

Unfortunately, the communication of the company's mission or drive for current projects is lacking. It seemed to me that lots of people are working in a bubble. Also, there was a problem with follow through or completion of certain goals set by upper management.

Good co-wokers, but very outdated management mentality.

    Pros

-Many co-workers are good people both inside and outside of the office.

    Cons

    -Underwhelming pay.
-Decentralized structure is a huge weak point because too many managers are focused on how they're getting along with other team leaders vs. focusing on clients' needs.
-Too many "lifers" are still present, which means cliques, stale ideas and fresh talent not taken seriously enough. (This goes for those within the marketing/sales, editorial and HR divisions.)
-Too many internal projects deemed as "favors" for other teams take away from workers' ability to focus solely on client needs.
-Not enough focus on fresh perspectives and smart usage of new media, which means IDG has lost out to many other publishers and agencies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Like another reviewer wrote, not all management is good management. Train yourselves on new media tools instead of relying on one or two people within the company to have a handle on them. Have more of a presence at local tech events. Show up, sponsor, partner... get creative with your branding! You're not on the radar of most people under the age of 40.
