Current Employee - Equipment Maintenance Technician III in Phoenix, AZ

I have been working at International Rectifier full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Always challenging problems that need to be over come. Never the same day twice. Competent coworkers. Good, comfortable working environment (especially for Phoenix). Nice break/smoking area.

Cons

When production quotas are low, it can be a boring place to spend 12 hours (if you don't count the stress of a potential lay off. - there have been about 9 RIF's in 12 years with the loss of all contract employees, and an average regular employee RIF of 5-10% per slowdown). When the contracts pick back up, there is a delay in re-hires and needed training that can cause many problems in ramping up. However, management is getting better at anticipating this and is waiting on laying off too many personnel too soon.
Quality of parts from vendors - we get way too many defective parts.
Micromanagement from Equipment Maintenance Manager.
Inappropriate procedures (short cuts) for reactor operation/setup have management approval. This results in shortened lifespan of critical components.

    I worked at International Rectifier

    Pros

From the director level on down very good team work; decent benefits; great parking ramp; ecellent training department and leader

    Cons

Little-to-no vision communicated to all / no clear direction on which to build from and work towards; bad performance review methodology; sense as if the company was getting prepped for sale

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate; involve your people and with your employees; be visible and create a sense of community! Too many silos!!

Leadership doesn't lead. They manage based on figures only.

    I worked at International Rectifier

    Pros

Nice co-workers who care about each other and improving systems and process.

    Cons

Lack the courage to do the hard work to improve systems/process at the core. Fail to value employees. Only care about numbers rather than balancing. This is the higher ups maintaining their salaries and stock options at the expense of everyone else. Oleg is too Junior for this position. CFO is too young and they can't manage each other. Oleg is an excellent and charismatic public speaker, but behind the scenes everyone is an idiot except those he knows. Employees are just a number. He does not consider leadership strategies. Just wants a paycheck and to drive up share price. Will move on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have some courage and dont hide behind your title.
