OK but not inspiring. Owners are out of touch with employees & customers.

Pros

On the ground level, the employees at peer level are nice people, friendly. The location of the office is convenient. If you have a good relationship with your direct manager, you can have more flexibility at work. There isn't a huge stress to work late or much overtime - it's rather relaxed (which is a mentality that can actually be a con when trying to actually get things done that require help from others).

Cons

They keep the pay averages on the low end of all salary ranges, and give meager raises. Stifling corporate environment that does not produce much creativity (many times well-supported and researched ideas from below get stopped at the top). The lack of resources across departments means that there aren't typically enough staff and money to do the work (or do it properly) upper management wants done. There is very little transparency across the board, with very poor data analysis capabilities to boot, so the lack of support to measure marketing tactics makes a marketers job more difficult and vague than it need be. I would question the health of the business for the future - and how long Intrax will be as large of a company as it is now.

Advice to Management

It's a "Mission-driven company," but nothing at Intrax inspires much of anyone to drive the mission. The owners' idea that employees should put their soul into it just because they work there is an old-fashioned, hierarchical way of thinking that's out of touch with today's workforce. For the industry, it's too stifling and "corporate" of a culture, and creativity gets squashed all too often. Corporate initiatives can be out of touch with customers as well. Communication and transparency must improve, and the idea that fewer employees can do more and more with less and less equals poorer and poorer quality of work and output. There should be more focus and cross-functional support.

    Pros

Most Intrax employees are there because they want to do something related to cultural exchange and are therefore interesting, fun, well-travelled people. In general, most employees are in their 20s and there is a lot of after-work socializing with coworkers. This is a lot of opportunity for advancement because many employees are young and move along quickly so if you want to stick around and take on a little responsibility you can get promoted pretty quickly.

    Cons

The pay tends to be low and the pressure to make the company money can be strangely high given the semi-altruistic mission that is espoused from management. Some of the divisions run visa exchange programs that are kind of sketchy. There is a lot of disillusionment among employees who often stay a year or less.

    Advice to Management

Be more open that motives of the for-profit divisions of the company are to make money during the hiring process. A lot of new employees are turned off but the reality of the sales driven culture when they thought they were getting into a more touchy-feely cultural exchange line of work. There isn't anything wrong with trying to make money but often the wrong type of employees are attracted to the job.

    Pros

Great culture around the office- you'll make a lot of friends here.

    Cons

The Senior Staff are not interested in your professional development. They work you to death until they don't need you anymore.

    Advice to Management

Know when your employees are invested and invest in them- you'll have less turnover and improve your product and services over time. Listen to your employees...
