I have been working at Intrepid Learning Solutions full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Flexable schedules, hourly rate, people you work with

Cons

never know how many hours you'll have from week to week. One month I only had 40 hoiurs for the whole month.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cross ultization. It is a small company with too many mouths to feed. In the end everyone is hungry. Those that need/want 40 hours a week let them have it.

I worked at Intrepid Learning Solutions full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Hard to come up with positives. They seem to chase their tail around identifying and delivering training products. Many clients leave after the first experience.

    Cons

The company is not process driven. Very hard to build good training products when they keep putting ineffectual consultants and PMs in front of clients. Without good tools, processes and managers in place it is hard to see how they stay in business. Tough environment to grow your skills. They have had waves of employees but few feel validated. There are many better companies to work for in the Puget Sound.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The CFO micromanaged everything without a deep understanding of the training dev process. She tried to rewrite Microsoft contracts! Each employee who is placed in an offsite job and is given an opportunity to work for the client, becomes her enemy. Therefore, these ex- employees never bring new business to Intrepid. Very toxic environment.

    Pros

This would be a great job for a retired person who does not need steady income to support a family and has other activities to fill in the days when you're not scheduled for work.

    Cons

All instructors are on shared-work unemployment due to the low number of scheduled work hours (8-20 hrs per week). Intrepid seems to be using this as a method to keep their instructors (who bring in the lion's share of the company's revenue). To hamper matters further, instructors have little input to shift schedule. You can jump from first to second and back to first in as many days. This makes a second job impossible to maintain.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

While the message from senior management is bright, it still hasn't filled the weekly work schedule. Honest dialog with your employees and may create some company loyalty, but for now I would be worried that your instructors are seeking work else where...
