Managers are great communicators, not very good executors

Former Employee - Customer Service Representative in Reno, NV

Pros

Intuit has excellent benefits. They pay at or above market for similar work other places. They have a well-organized training department to ensure employees are skilled on their products. Very flexible hours for employees with special requirements.

Cons

I worked as a customer service rep that was going through a management transition. One of the manager was extremely high maintenance and drove away some experienced employees by being aggressive and extremely discourteous. This manager was seen as a key person in the transition, so was protected from any repercussions from his actions. The morale of my department was shattered. Upper management knew of the problems but refused to remedy them.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

My department manager seemed paralyzed by the dramatics occurring in his department. He tried to be open and frank about the problems but failed to move to address any of them. Eventually the problem manager left the company, and only then did the department manager take steps to try to recover the morale of the team.

Great environment for the married/pregnant, not so much for the young & restless.

Current Employee - Associate Product Manager in Mountain View, CA

    Pros

Fantastic supporters of work-life balance. A customer-first culture that is reflected in every decision made. A work community where learning happens (and is strongly encouraged) at all levels, not just the trenches. Informal and laid back work atmosphere.

    Cons

Some projects have many layers of buearuocracy that cause annoying lags in communication and decision making. Lacks a young workforce - not a fun social environment to work in if you are single and in your 20s. Mountain View campus is nice on the outside, but the workspaces are dull and boring.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Break down stodgy organizational barriers that slow progress of projects. Make projects smaller. Make more of an effort cater to a younger workforce.

Working with software has it's ups and downs.

Current Employee - Senior Software Engineer in Cleveland, OH

    Pros

Excellent benefits and getting to work with new technologies. Middle management is very flexible when it comes to time off or needing to leave work early to attend to family affairs.

    Cons

Typically software sweat shop. Pushing out new products on a tight deadline means long hours for software developers and quality assurance. That has had an affect on moral. When I started with the company it was a fun place to work. People were excited and had energy. Now when I walk the cube farm I see tired faces. It seems they are focusing more on shareholders and clients then employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget about us (employees)! Money matters but that raise only comes once a year. If your not having fun at your job you quickly forget about that raise in a few months are start to look elsewhere.
