Former Employee - Assurance Engineer in Croydon, England (UK)

I worked at Invensys Rail full-time for more than a year

Pros

Some good, educated and professional people work in the company, especially highly skilled engineers that competition would love to poach. Also good working environment in the Croydon Offices and Euston Offices.

Cons

Second wave of redundancies within a year despite promising the first wave would have been the final one.
Can not afford to give yearly salary increases more than 1.25% which is way less than the standard competitor for the market.
Useless bonus scheme which is designed to pay nothing year on year.
Frequent high level management changes don’t help the situation.

An incompetent management for a struggling company with unhappy employees

I have been working at Invensys Rail

    Pros

A move over the recent years has pushed Invensys Rail to extend their reach overseas outside of their traditional markets within Europe, offering new opportunities.

The company is one of the lesser competitors in the railway industry in search of a better future.

    Cons

Yet, this growth strategy comes at a heathy price:
lack of control over spending and frenetic technologies development doesn't deliver the vision, only stocks value plunges and forecasted/foreseeable poor margins, if any!
major contracts losses in UK has triggered massive retrenchment exercises and depleted the company of a much needed workforce

The impact of the morale of the employee is equally proportional to the lack of adequate management:
promised training programmes were never implemented
high turn-over is a clear indication of a running all-over the place "strategy" which obviously lack long-term visibility
internal lesser resources deployment at the detriment of key achievers/performers in shocking lay-off illustrate a hidden agenda at the Senior Management level for a power coup
Human Resources doesn't play their necessary part: own internal policies is a struggle to enforce, if one can!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stick to your words: do what you say you will

Implement fairness and integrity: treat your employees with respect commensurate to their loyalty

Recognise high performance, contribution and achievement: forgo favouritism and motivate high achievers with incentives

Create sustainable growth: do train your staff, do simply talk about it

Drop internal war affairs: enforce effective collaboration within the various geographical Business Units of the Group
