    Pros

1.) The Pay is OKAY for what you have to do and the skill required to get the job in the first place 2.) You can learn a lot and it's a great introduction to the field

    Cons

1.) Operators are looked down at by lab staff, management, and everybody else in the company. 2.) A lot of operators coming in have zero experience in a process setting and are working around chemicals, steam and process equipment for the first time. I'm suprised there isn't more accidents there. 3. ) Nobody forgets your mistakes but at the same time, nobody is really punished for their mistakes either.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice. They run their company like they want to and enough operators stay around that they don't need to change....

    Doesn't Recommend
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

    1. Responsibility over individual work including resource/equipment scheduling. 2. Responsibility for which research projects to work on for a given day. 3. Permitted to voice opinion(s) at weekly department meetings on research that is carried out in the research group. 4. Quick access to supervisors when needed.

    Cons

    1. Management-to-subordinate ratio is too low i.e. in every department a manager only supervises at most three staff. 2. Lower level management i.e. Staff Scientist position lacks people skills. The Staff Scientists are mostly people who have recently graduated from a Ph.D. program and do not have any experience managing employees full-time. Therefore they are head strong, and while they listen to others voice their opinions they do not often take them into consideration when making decisions. 3. Rampant infighting amongst low- and mid-level managers i.e. Staff Scientist and Senior Staff Scientist positions, where people are trying to consolidate power or squeeze out decision making by others. 4. Support staff i.e. Lab technicians from other departments are recalcitrant when other suggest to them to try new methods to improve accuracy of experimental results or work productivity. 5. Employee turnover rate is relatively high i.e. average time at the company for non-management staff appears to be only two to three years.

    Advice to Management

Heed the ideas of non-management employees. There are a lot of Research Associate and Research Associate II employees who have great ideas about how to improve productivity and R&D successes but whose ideas are stifled by lower-level management i.e. Staff Scientists owing to ego conflicts.
