Pros

-There are a variety of job opportunities in research settings
-Excellent teaching resources and materials
-Applicable engineering experience
-Chances for professional networking and growth

Cons

There are a lot of different opportunities at Iowa State. The problem is that the job-related tasks can be very demanding and you must focus to balance school work and your job.

Advice to Management

I would say keep up the good work - all professors I have met have been interested in helping students and have been inspirational.

    Pros

I was able to meet many new and interesting people while working there and the hours were easy to work with.

    Cons

The only downside to the job I had was that it was temporary with no opportunity to change to a permanent position.

    Advice to Management

I would have loved to have the opportunity to work full-time for the university, maybe in the future that can be an option for some temporary helpers at the beginning of the year.

  2. Decent place to be a graduate student

    Pros

I worked in a small department with a generally cohesive/ supportive atmosphere (though I hear this is not always the case in larger departments); Decent pay given the cost of living in Ames, IA; Far less pretentious than many other universities

    Cons

Pretty culturally homogenous; Definitely on the politically "red" side of the spectrum (some may consider this a pro)

    Advice to Management

Reduce administrative waste and pass on the savings to under-supported departments that are doing great work with embarassingly little support
