Former Employee - General Manager in San Diego, CA

I worked at Island Hospitality full-time for more than a year

Pros

Only at property level is a pro.

Cons

HR department is really a joke. Nonexistent. Poor relationships upper Exec team has with their employees and property level leaders. The worst communication ever between Corp and properties. Upper Executive team has big egos. If you challenge them, give opinion that doesn't mirror theirs, you are most likely going to be fired. A lot of good GM's and Sales Managers fired for so called performance. Upper executive team allowed so much neglect through out the bankruptcy to hotels that they want a magic wand to erase and fix it ASAP. Not realistic. Fired great leaders for failing BSA or QA and or fire Sales for declining revpar. NO warnings just fire.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a better HR program in place and give great leaders the opportunity to fix.

I have been working at Island Hospitality full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I have nothing good to say about this company. I think they are trying to cover their butts from the Inn Keepers bankruptcy a few years back.

    Cons

Double Standards for employees. HORRIBLE communication from regional managers, and unrealistic expectations. They only care about the bottom line and making as much profit as possible with no thoughts about their employees. Demanding them to work 7 days a week (if you are salaried) and longer than 9 hour shifts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would consider taking a closer look at your regional managers and some of your corporate staff.
