Pros

Seeing new brands and a new vision at an older retailer is exciting. Theoretically stores are given more freedom to execute a new merchandising strategy never before used inside J.C. Penney.

Cons

New brands and pricing structure began as a good thing, but corporate cannot decide on one strategy and stick to it. Every day people go to work fearing they will be let go in the name of restructuring. Rather than encouraging people to do the best work they can, this encourages management to be a culture of fear which then cascades down to the selling floor associates. The new structure demands you give them everything you can, but they are no longer there for you.

I have been working at J. C. Penney full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Will have a very mild holiday with probably hardly any shoppers

    Cons

Macy's is better. Macy's has a fabulous cosmetics dept. JCP only has Sephora that plays teenie bopper music. It's housed underneath a tightly condensed section of the store that is clustered with high cases and an overhang that makes you feel encased in a dark cave.
There's not enough merchandise to accomodate a family comprised of all age groups.

Most items are imported from China and other countries. The sizes are not true to size.

Winter coat selection is poor with cheap fabric and materials.

They return anything, including undergarments and bathing suits and pierced earrings.

There's no more registers throughout the stores like Macy's. There's very little help in the store and you fend for yourself. Registers exist only in a few parts of the stores at the entrances. Makes it very hard for elderly people and handicapped individuals who have to walk way across the store just to get serviced.

I worked at J. C. Penney part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Scheduling is relatively easy, as long as you give notice that you need a day off enough in advance.

    Cons

Takes a very long time to advance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let employees who have proved they are informative about the items in the departments they work in have a little independence. Often, they know more about their customers and their products more tahn management does.
