Pros

JCPenney is an interesting environment with engaging individuals, a great discount, and fun people. The stores are clean and inviting, and the merchandise is exciting.

Cons

The pay is not great, and due to the recent transformation is a high stress environment. It is somewhat difficult to move up in the ranks, since they like to hire for leadership positions from the outside.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

have a plan set in place to cope with the stressful environment of retail.

    I have been working at J. C. Penney part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    * Most employee's and managers are nice and easy to work with.
    * generous store discount.
    * understanding if a few minutes late.

    Cons

    * Difficult to make plans. Schedule is changed on a daily basis sometimes.
    * Expected to work over scheduled shift at last minutes notice, working 10+ hour shift.
    * Low pay / sometimes barley any hours
    * Very dirty store
    * Communication issues.
    * Was told at interview, "Hours are based on performance." Not true at all!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Quit making it difficult for employee's to have a life outside of work. There needs to be more communication between the managers, leaders, experts, cashiers, etc, etc..... Everyone needs to be on the same page about store standards. Recognize employees because they work hard not because of the credit apps they get.
