Great experience, but too much of an "OLD BOYS CLUB"

I have been working at J. C. Penney full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The company offers great experience, decent benefits, room for career growth, and excellent work/life balance.

    Cons

Unfortunately, the company runs on the "OLD BOYS CLUB" method and I have watched too many people lose their jobs or get turned down for promotions or simply never get hired because Susy's uncles brothers sister needed a job. AND, if you dare mention the obvious.... you WILL be FIRED.... on the spot, NO questions asked....even if it breaks every labor law. If 95 % of the people that work there put even half as much effort into their actual job as they do talking bad about people behind there backs, they company might just be able to get back on top. It's actually very sad, they have the right business guidelines, just the wrong people "PRETENDING" to follow them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire the people that are there to have "Play-Dates", "Romances", and make "Facebook Friends" and hire people with talent who value their job. If they follow that simple rule, they might be able to get out of the negative and away from the "Everything MUST GO" sale.

    Pros

    Pay is competitive.
    Prototypes of your designs developed.

    Cons

Too many cooks in the kitchen.
    Poor mgmt. making poor decisions.
    Unstable
Lack of positive moral for Trainees
Poor communication btwn mgmt. makes it difficult as a Trainee

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Don't lead your Trainees on.
Don't encourage trainees to setup home base when truly there is NO guarantee of them getting the job.
Only pick Mentors for Trainees that have played that rile before.

Advice to YOU the potential Trainee:

Explore Texas! It's a GREAT area!
Have fun while getting paid pretty well! ( They may use you, so when you have a day off take advantage!)
    Make connections!
Don't pull all nighters, it won't make a difference.
Take the feedback like a grain of salt. The mgmt. isn't up to par.
