I have been working at J. Crew part-time (more than an year)

Pros

Able to go from backroom job to front of store jobs. Discount.

Cons

on call shifts, and being scheduled for less than promised hours.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

If someone is not scheduled for a week or so, keep in the loop for things that come up in the store. By communicating all the "stuff" it helps in continuity of how everyone is treated.

    Pros

MY store had a great management team when I was hired, of course as retail goes; this changed but still wasn't horrible at the store level.

    Cons

Management beyond the store level left much to be desired. Visits felt more like a prison line-up, didn't seem to offer any help.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Don't make things so competitive.

    Pros

great discount, cute clothes, good way to build your wardrobe

    Cons

    unprofessional and condescending management

As a college student when coming home for the holidays I was hoping to pick up a seasonal job to get some spending money. After being hired at J. Crew for seasonal sales I was optimistic about potentially being hired on after the holidays. I only lasted two weeks before giving my notice to the company. Myself and the other seasonal workers were not trained AT ALL on the floor or to use registers/phones,etc. They chose to spend our precious training time by educating us on the company history. Understandable for normal new hires, but not for seasonal work.

Management proved to be unhelpful. Scolded employees on the floor in front of fellow associates AND customers. Gets annoyed if you ask questions, etc. Extremely unprofessional management. I would NEVER work here again.
