I worked at J D Wetherspoon full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Free shares, people with no formal qualifications can get into management positions, excellent training and learning opportunities.

Cons

Poor pay for even the managers. Minimum wage for staff. 50 hour weeks. Easy to get fired, everything is a disciplinary offense!!

Advice to Management

Pay your shift managers more, management is a huge responsibility, and under £8 per hour? Disgraceful!

    Pros

When working for Wetherspoons you get a good laid back family vibe. All the staff get along, meaning that the pub functionality is flawless.

    Cons

Staff get same tasks over and over. No rotation on what staff where doing. Same staff get sent home early if the pub was quiet.

    Advice to Management

Introduce a rotation scheme to staff, giving bar staff to change what they do all the time. This way staff could have good knowledge on all aspects of the job. When the pub is quiet, send a few experienced staff home so newer staff can be trained while the pub is quiet.
