I have been working at J.P. Morgan

    Pros

Mobility provides opportunity to gain a well balanced skill set.
    Pay is above average.
    Opportunity to grow.
Allows for a good balance between work and life.

    Cons

Upward movement depends on your ability to play the political games.
Campaigning your achievements is more important than your actual achievements.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Its almost impossible to get anything done without the assistance of other teams. Which means that your progress is dependent on another team's availability. This results in possible deadlock situations.

I worked at J.P. Morgan full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    - Name recognition of working in the IB of JP Morgan
    - Lots of training available
    - Employee discounts

    Cons

    - JP Morgan comes first before anything in your life!
    - Employees who work 9-6:30 or 10-7 are viewed as 'harder working' and 'more valuable' than someone who works 8-6.
    - Forced rankings: doesn't matter if your team has two people or 25...of course this is a popularity and pissing contest
    - Extremely expensive health benefits (good coverage, but $$$$$$)
    - Lack of admins and supplies: you never knew who to call if there was a problem or need for the department

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perhaps I would have a different view of JPM if I hadn't joined the Global Risk Middle Office.

JPM= Just People Meeting....all VPs do all day is sit behind closed doors talking about nothing...they view the departments as their fiefdoms and act like they are Managing Directors.

I never felt that my life outside of work was of any value...god forbid you are a married male and only working 50 hours per week (and throw in a 3 hour total daily commute).
