Some good opportunities for career progression as long as you don't stay with the company too long....

    Pros

    Good mobility opportunities.
Chances to change jobs using transferable skills rather than direct experience.
Good networking opportunities and sense of team work within teams.

    Cons

Unfair rating and promotion process - not based on merits of individual, more based around time in the role and politics.
Large divergence in salaries between newly hired staff and who have been with the company for a number of years and promoted internally, despite being at same grade.
Despite record profits year after year, bonus pool has been very poor in comparison to other companies.

    Advice to Management

The payscales for the grades need to be much narrower and staff who have shown loyalty to the company should be rewarded better. Culture is to pay someone to come in from another company to do that same job and pay them significantly more, this causes resentment.

Good firm, but too much politics. Pretty good work/life balance

    Pros

Work with smart people, one of the best Investment Banks. Solid risk management in the IB ( CIO was another story but this is now resolved ).
    Pay is pretty good.
Work life balance is quite good compared to many other IBs

    Cons

Far too much politics and groups working for their own interests rather than the firm.
Huge amount of resources wasted every year on useless projects promoted by people with a personal agenda.
Being recognised and promoted often has little to do with real work produced and a lot more to do with self marketing.
