I have been working at J.P. Morgan full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

A large recognizable company with many different jobs and opportunities to advance and try different jobs.

Cons

It is difficult to work in the software engineering department since it is a Financial Company. There are a lot of controls and rules that have to be followed that are not typical of software department.

I worked at J.P. Morgan as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Very well structured internship program. I was put on frontline projects, given multiple opportunities to interact and work with senior management across different verticals in the bank.

    Cons

Pressure cooker environment, where all-nighters are frequent occurrences and in fact expected of investment banking analysts and associates. Quant skills not as highly valued as powerpoint and excel knowhow.

I have been working at J.P. Morgan

    Pros

Great benefits, people, and opportunities. Strong reputation in the marketplace across most areas of the firm. I have friends that still work there that love the place.

    Cons

Can be political depending on your division.
External hires often take place over qualified internal workers.
Lots of restructuring/reorganizing in the last 3-4 years (in some areas)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be sure to tap the internal talent first!
