Good managements, work balance, central area to live in, competent senior management.

Rigid career movement opportunities, repertitive work, lack of training.

    I worked at J Sainsbury full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Work was varied, physically active and reasonable. Hours were flexible. Customers are friendlier than other retailers.

    Cons

    Poorly organised Team Leaders who lacked discipline. Wages too low vs profitability. Too much focus on availability over sustainable procurement (i.e. Shipping asparagus in from Peru for 10 months a year.). Does business with the state of Israel. Stocks Nestle products. And the rest, I could go on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    BE BOLD. The food industry has to change, Sainsburys could lead the change.

    Stop shipping produce from around the globe, focus on local seasonal produce. Beat Abel & Cole at their own game.

    Don't conduct business with companies or in countries with questionable ethics.

    Make sure all employees, contractors and suppliers earn a living wage.

    Work with other food giants to develop a globally sustainable food system.

    OK, so the last step is a biggy! But you get the picture.

    I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Great bunch of people you work with, everyone is friendly. Most customers are great and even have the same ones that come in every week and you can have a laugh with. Processes are simple.

    Cons

    It seems that it's always the same people doing the same jobs every week. Our store is now on it's 3rd store manager in the past 4 years!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Make sure the department managers can work well under pressure and know how to deal with their staff.
