I worked at J Sainsbury

Pros

None, absolutely awful place to work. The only upside is how mind numbing it is. This is a plus if you are brain dead. However some employees are the salt of the earth.

Cons

Useless employee's. In fighting between managers. Food hygiene standards were non existent. Management tried to use me as a bodyguard when they caught a drunk stealing alcohol.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your doing everything bacward, treat your staff better and with more respect, hire some honest nice people rather than anyone that walks in off the street. Communicate better between each other.

    I worked at J Sainsbury

    Pros

The discount scheme is not the best in comparison with other retailers, but it is increased at holiday times and during the summer and you can get some excellent bargains amongst the sale items and the seasonal offers; As the store is open long hours it is possible to arrange hours around outside commitments such as child care and medical appointments which means that holiday s do not need to be used; there is a fairly generous holiday allowance given plus the bank holidays, you can opt to work the bank holidays and have an alternative day off providing it fits in with the needs of the business. some stores have a very good atmosphere and friendly staff

    Cons

There are constant changes to processes and procedures that sometimes hard to implement and sell to the staff and just as everyone adjusts it changes. It would appear that some decisions are made by people at the top who have never worked in a store or it has not been trialled properly. Information is given out on a need to know basis with the idea that no one needs to know. communication has improved but it is still not good enough. The stores get the blame for most things and have to take the cost of any losses. The depots cause problems at times, but have improved greatly. System information is not available at store level that would help resolve problems and provide proof that deliveries are not accurate. Staff employed on night shift are a law unto themselves, are often not able to read english sufficiently to do a good job and this causes problems for day staff. If you have no family life then this is an ideal job as it can take over your life if you let it. Power hungry kingdom builders are often allowed to get away with their appalling behaviour

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your good staff - don't burn them - or they will leave

the counter senior management take no notice of these problems the store at which i work as one law for one and another
which leads to bad feeling among staff who have genuine problems with health

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

the problem with senior management is that favouritism is the name of the game they can never see what has been done
there can always see what has not been done there is no praise for a job well done but plenty of fault they have no respct for any body elses feelings or poistion many store managers are bullies towards members of staff
