It is all in where you land. Good experiences abound, but you may get a lemon too. Lemonade is an option squeeze right

Former Employee – worked at JET Program

ProsAs a CIR in a city office you get many opportunities to brush up your Japanese.
Additionally, if the office is large enough, you get many opportunities to meet with delegates and other VIPs.

ConsJapanese offices are rigid. The people at the top, in some cases are only there because they have put in their time. However, if you really don't like the people you are working with, every April, many people get transferred, and you may find that the person you have the most issues with is gone come April 1.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere should be more feedback on job performance to help develop the CIRs. Many CIRs are young, and if they can do a bit of translation, they get praised and get a big head. This creates problems while they are in the offices. Moreover, once they get back to the real working world, looking for a job, they will get a big slap in the face when they have to work longer hours, for less pay and have layoffs looming over their heads.
