JPMorgan Chase – “large company with small organic software groups”
Pros
plenty of free time: you attend several meetings per week in which you do nothing but sit there and listen.
money: they can certainly buy extra equipment for you when you need it
laptop: they supply you with a laptop immediately
no hassles about lunch break
the more important you are, the harder you work: what this means is that as a software developer, both your boss and boss' boss are too busy to keep track of you. Typically you have an assigned task that takes 4-5 hours, but you have a whole week to complete it.
Excellent pay: you get paid way more than the average software developer in Columbus.
Cons
rigid administration: you work on shared machines and it takes far too much politics to get software installed
materialism: dont expect the people at a bank to sympathize with your spiritual side.
Advice to Senior Management
realize that each group needs its own resources. How can you expect vastly different teams to perform maximally on shared iron? Why do you think it should take 2-3 months before software installation is approved?
