I worked at Jackson Lewis

Pros

Time off is not an issue, and the company is very willing to work with your schedule. Many, many intelligent and dedicated people work here. Groups of people are close, and there are often several people enjoying a happy hour after work. The people are very resourceful, and have developed several unique solutions to otherwise orthodox problems.

Cons

The atmosphere is very cliquish, often there are internal power struggles between coworkers on opposing sides/departments. At times the environment is very bitter and feels like a highschool/sorority with most of the staff gossiping about the others. It almost always gets back to the individuals being discussed. There is an overall attitude to treat non-attorneys as a lower class, and the attorney's mistakes are hidden/protected. Elitism is strongly at play, and there is little opportunity for growth for non-attorneys.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

It wouldn't matter, because this is really the problem. The people who could make positive change are not concerned with doing it.

    Pros

Every attorney understands the importance of a work-life balance. Although a high quality of work is required, the firm leadership values family and personal health and wants everyone to succeed

    Cons

There are not very many cons. The only one I can think of is it is hard to make partner.

    Just Okay

I have been working at Jackson Lewis full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Most people are polite and seem genuinely nice. It's always busy, which makes the days go by fast and gives a certain sense of job security. The salary is good.

    Cons

Operates like a bunch of small, separate firms. Technology is outdated. Managers are not trained. Departments are understaffed. Communications are old-fashioned (the occasional formal memo from the chairman). No training or on-boarding process. Unless you've worked there for a long time, you don't know who to contact if you have a question about accounting, human resources, etc. Benefits package is below average. Lacks leadership and vision. Things are done this way, "because we've always done it that way." Needs an overhaul and fresh perspectives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some money on technology and admin departments. Follow your own advice and start giving employees regular training, goals, and performance reviews. Open up communications and make people feel like they are all part of the business. Hire some true leaders. Where is the vision?
