I worked at James Madison University full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Great benefits.
    Great vacation and sick time.
    University setting can be exhilarating.
Some really great and smart people.

    Cons

    Political correctness runs amok.
The University could run on a budget 20% less than it has. TONS of waste.
    Terrible management.
Tons of reporting requirements that amount to nothing.
Much of upper management has spent their entire career at JMU. Too inward looking and not willing to change. When change happens it is not managed well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Run meetings better.
    Manage change better.
