I worked at Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You get to take up a lot of responsibilities and learn things that you may not have learnt in any other organization. If you are a manager then you get exposure to running a team while keeping tabs on budget, KRA/KPIs and other facets of team management.

    Cons

A lot of time is spent in meetings with no real outcome or positive impact on the actual work. This gives chance to some employees to massage egos and project themselves as really caring about the organization thereby getting in the good books of co-founders. Once you are there you can even hold anyone hostage in the company and still get away with it.
The stress levels are unnecessarily high for employees with no consideration given to their personal lives. You are treated almost like bonded labor and if you quit you are labelled a mercenary.
A lot of time is spent in planning and doing gorund work but then the entire activity is scrapped with no logical justification or desired outcome which enhances the dissatisfaction

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Move away from being an activity based organization to an outcome based organization.
Stop micro-managing the employees and learn to trust their decision making.
Get down from your high-horse and for once try treating your employees as human beings.
