I have been working at Jared Galleria of Jewelry
Pros – Schedule is semi flexible, if you forget about the black out periods.
Single point pricing allows little confrontation or miscommunication for product pricing to be told to guests.
Employee discount is core pricing + 15%
Cons – Commission rate is based off of entire store sales in comparison to the entire store goals. So basically if you yourself work extra hard to go above and beyond your goals yet the rest of the store doesn't, your pay check hurts. Sales plans are not very realistic considering recession we are currently in, so despite thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of sales into the company's pocket commission is automatically only 0.05% if store goal is missed. (thats only $5 in your pocket for every Grand you sell the company.) Black out periods are no ifs an or buts, no vacations no time off and stupid crazy hours around holidays. Diamonds can not be sold unless you are DCA certified, which takes a minimum of 6 months to even qualify for the eligibility for the company to pay $115 for the course. then you must wait for the books to arrive, take tests, wait for the tests to be processed, all in all basically 9 months to a year before you can even sell diamonds at a store which focuses its advertising on what else.. Diamonds? Department goal breakdowns are unequal when you consider almost 80% of every sale that walks in the door is for diamonds yet 50% of the staff working there can't touch them. Its very discouraging to see the hard work, the hard team work, and then after everything is said and done a very skimpy pay check.
Advice to Senior Management – Review the policy for DCA certification... high turn over rate is due to the discouragement of continuous inability to meet goals without being able to sell diamonds and being forced to turn guest after guest over to other employees. It sickens my stomach to see managers selling products and they are not even goaled, yet the sale consultants who are goaled are struggling to even meet their daily plan.
