    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Jefferson County Schools (Colorado) full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I believe that if you get into the right school, this can be a rewarding place to work

    Cons

Principals have too much power; employees are not valued for their professional skills and knowledge

    Advice to Management

The power structure needs work. Community sups should spend more time making sure there is consistency across schools and principals are accountable to employees, so that it truly can be "all about kids" and not all about power.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Jefferson County Schools (Colorado) as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most of the schools in the district are wonderful and focused on best practices. Teachers, administrators, and support staff truly care about student success and growth. The schools within the higher socioeconomic areas have outstanding support and strong PTA's that feed money into needed areas, namely technology and LMC books.

    Cons

The school board is focused on a political agenda that has nothing to do with student success. Low socioeconomic areas are left with little funding and support, which makes for very difficult work for teachers. Jeffco currently does not offer more pay for working in these difficult schools. Class sizes are too large. Cindy Stevenson is no longer CEO (she was wonderful). New CEO, Dan McMinimee, makes $80K more than Stevenson and has no experience being a superintendent.

    Advice to Management

Reduce class sizes. Make incentives to work at Title I schools.
