I have been working at Jewish Board of Family and Childrens Services

Pros

Its mission is to help people throughout the New York City area and, in some programs, nationally. Atmosphere is relaxed in general. Its relatively large size for a social service agency provides opportunities to move around and up. It has an excellent training department that provides many opportunities for learning and career advancement for mental health and other professionals. Management is actively concerned with equal opportunity and fighting racism.

Cons

It has not escaped and will not escape the economic downturn. The uncertainty can affect things, but while it may experience layoffs or cutbacks it is relatively unlikely to experience the "selloff" or closings that have plagued banks, investment firms, etc... As a nonprofit, it can't offer the salary levels of for profit firms (but, as per preceding, may offer greater stability in these times).

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay the course.
