I worked at Jewish Community Center

    Pros

Diverse community--many cultures and all ages. Scholarship awards. Employee Appreciation Week. Fitness center discount. Cultural events: films, music, plays, contests. Relaxed dress code and atmosphere. Serving members who are grateful for all the center offers, especially the elderly.

    Cons

Low pay is typical for a non-profit community center. Sometimes rigid rules prevent employee initiative and creativity. Some managers have been there for over 20 years, which sometimes leads to an automatic response of "we have always done it this way." But it also means that there are experienced managers who really know the ins and outs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be open to more ideas from employees about possible changes to improve. Provide a confidential way for employees to make suggestions. At the annual meeting, show employees how some of their ideas were acted upon in the past year and what a great difference they made (saving money, better service to members, making the work easier). Pay a few employees (representing different departments) to attend committee meetings held four times a year to discuss how to implement any changes that affect the workers. Publish the positive results in an employee news letter.

I have been working at Jewish Community Center

    Pros

Easy place to work, people are nice, lots of time of for Jewish Holidays. Not a lot of stress and people stay a long time.

    Cons

Pay is not good and the health benefits are not good either. The people who run the place are not very smart and they waste a lot of time doing nothing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should streamline the place, cut back on the dead weight and pay the people better who are left. Do more with less.
