    Pros

Base Pay + Commission is a good perk. The people I worked with at multiple locations were very helpful and had an overall pretty good attitude about working there and working together.

    Cons

It is still retail so sometimes the hours can be a little gruesome, but that's to be expected. Christmas time, Black Friday, Special promotions etc. Take that with a grain of salt though, because I was a student when I worked there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work and continue to develop your sales personel. Continue to keep employees abreast of upward movement opportunities within the company.

I have been working at JoS. A. Bank full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The company is really laid back. Co-workers are fun. A lot of down time at work to do other things, like apply for other jobs.

    Cons

Where to start. First, the pay sucks. There is lots of talk about earning commission but if you are not at one of the busy stores you cannot hit it. The company offers so many sales, its impossible to hit any sales goals. Second, the company will give anything to any customer who complains and throw everyone under the bus for following company policies. Third, the company will have extended selling hours and let the stores know only a few days before; so the entire schedule has to be re-written. The company expects you to have no personal life. To top it off, during the extended hours, no customers ever come in. Fourthly, the store managers don't do any work. At every store, the manager sits in the back and either makes personal phone calls, spends all day on facebook, or wanders around talking about their personal life. Finally, there isn't anywhere to go. The company has store managers who have been store managers for 10-15 years. Under them you have assistants who have been there equally as long. So when an opportunity does arise, there is a long line for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay higher wages. Stop having so many sales that cheapens the products. Realize that you are a specialty retailer and extended hours doesn't bring in more business.
