  1. Useful for the introduction into menswear, but really an awful way to spend one's life

    Pros

    1. If you are wiling to learn, you will come out with useful knowledge on men's clothing, and other useful insights on how businesses ran themselves in the 90's.

    2. There are a variety of Commission opportunities.

    3. There is a lot that is left for the store managers to figure out themselves, and are generally left alone.

    Cons

    1. They still use fax machines.

    2. While there are a variety of Commission benefits, the relative percentage is small and insignificant (3-5%) and is only made after your hourly is made up. There are 3-4 cases that I heard of in my time there of employees rigging the system so that they would get more Commission, and in a couple of cases were arrested.

    3. There are constant changing of sales and fidgeting of numbers enough to drive one crazy.

    4. Customers, while some very kind and interesting, are largely needy and entitled, even if they haven't spent any money with your person. If they have spent money, it is possible that they will give you a predicament by getting red in the face and threatening to call your superiors (which they hold as a real threat). The companies policies foster this kind of behavior.

    Advice to Management

    Change yourself.

  2. From the Corporate employee standpoint, it does not value employees. Have not gotten salary increases in 3+ years.

    Pros

Great co-workers and corp. headquarters convenient. They hire many locals (HQ in a rural area) which helps local economy.

    Cons

No rewards for the hard work everyone puts in. Fat cats just getting fatter. Their attitude is that you are lucky you have a job. Excuse is that "in this economy..." but they are sitting on LOADS of cash, hence they are able to buy Eddie Bauer with $525+ cash. Marketing strategies are ridiculous and archaic. Marketing people are NOT from Marketing backgrounds which is so obvious... their ads are equal to Tire commercials. They need new, younger, hipper blood in their executive roles with new ways of thinking to actually turn this company around.

    Advice to Management

    Share the wealth.
