I have been working at John Deere full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

John Deere actually lives it core values. The company is highly ethical at all levels. They treat employees very well and total compensation (including 401K match, Pension, benefits, and bonus) has been outstanding during the recent Ag boom.
There are multiple international opportunities for employees with interest in international assignments.
Work/life balance is very good. I typically work 40 hours a week. Very rarely work on weekends.

Cons

John Deere is a 175 year old company and they act like it. It can be a very slow moving company that is ultra conservative. This can be very frustrating at times.
The majority of the locations in the US are in the Midwest.
As far as career development is concerned the culture is very much a "wait your turn" and "check the boxes" mentality.

Be realistic about who you are and don't think you are a fast paced innovative company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out a better way to truly rate employees performance. the performance management system sounds great but to avoid conflict managers just give employees good ratings instead of being straight forward about what they are not doing right. Usually the manager will tell the hiring manager how he or she really feels about the person behind there back without even giving the employee a chance to correct their action.
