I worked at John Deere

Pros

Pay and Benefits are both excellent. The matching program for the 401k investment is great, although vesting does take 5 years. Generous vacation allowances.

Cons

Lack of flexibility in work schedules. Lack of support for balance between work and family life. Unfair advantages and preferential treatment given to certain types of employees who best fit the "John Deere Lifestyle".

I have been working at John Deere

    Pros

    Management up-front with employees.
Company is taking steps today to remain viable for the next 180 years.
Salary has been slightly above average for my age and experience, good bonus structure.

    Cons

    High deductable health insurance sucks.
Too many "flavor of the month" management initiatives.
Forced use of Six Sigma when common sense is really what's needed.
Sometimes questionable promotion of people who do not deserve it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve Health Insurance benefits, or at least force the same system on UAW members so that wage and salary have the same health benefits. Do not try to force too many company-wide initiatives in one year, these programs are not a replacement for common sense. Otherwise, keep up the good work, I hope to continue to work for this company through retirement. I am proud to work for this company.
