Pros

Good benefits, nice work life balance, good office culture, offers competitive salaries. Company takes innovative approaches to control costs with a genuine concern to limit impact on employees.

Cons

Managers focus heavily weighed on improving worker efficiency, little thought or actions go into potential upward mobility is limited.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be a better balance between developing employees to improve efficiency and to improve their career. Tools are available for career development by the employee, however, managers focus on improving efficiency while ignoring upward mobility potential.

    Pros

    Great Benefits, Strong Brand, able to move between divisions, work from home opportunities

    Cons

    Due to a massive restructuring, opportunities to grow are just non-existent, poor salaries (really poor), wrong people managing areas, an inability to deal with poor performers at the management level, one-size-fits-all type management in terms of IT needs (system access and security based on the thought that everyone handles client data when a huge number of employees do not and have different IT needs), staffing (not allowing people to manage small teams even when it makes sense),

    Staff your areas appropriately! Get rid of poor performers and make people accountable.

    I have been working at John Hancock full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    The office had a positive environment. The people were pleasant. I liked my job. The pay was satisfactory. I enjoyed the experience.

    Cons

    The company was considering combining two branches, so job security was not strong. Over time it caused the environment to become more stressful.
