I worked at Johns Hopkins Medicine

Pros

My times were flexible and it was great when I had young kids

Cons

There is a lot of political posturing and unfairness. Female faculty may not be getting the same salaries as their male counterparts.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Are female employees paid the same as their male counterparts?

I have been working at Johns Hopkins Medicine

    Pros

You get all the benefits of a world class research institution including a wealth of intellectual resources, large labs with lots of NIH funding, and a good collegiate environment for collaborations.

    Cons

It becomes very difficult to advance in the ranks and gain promotions. Sometimes the environment can be very intense and competitive, especially when it comes to publications.

A great place for science, but not for life.

I have been working at Johns Hopkins Medicine

    Pros

Great platform to conduct science with huge amount of resources and multiple opportunities to expose and communicate. Funding is less a problem.

    Cons

Less chances for immigrant scientists to grow and promote. Competition is tough. The fast working pace and high research goals drove people work day and night here. Poor work/life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hard to get feedback for your performance. Perhaps PIs and management persons could give employees an evaluation/annual report each year so that you know whether you reach the expectation of employers rather than having to guess what they are thinking.
