Little job security for research scientists

Research Associate (Current Employee) Baltimore, MD

ProsGood infra-structure and office management support. There are bright people, but little support for young scientists. You are on your own, and need to go somewhere else if you want a permanent position.

ConsNo job security since many research positions are based on research grants. This could be different in medical school campus where some money comes from clinical revenue.

Advice to Senior ManagementEnvironment is catered toward tenured professors. Teaching by some dispassionate professors is often dismal with less than 25% class attendance. If you have a research position, there is no job security and you need to provide 100% of your salary plus overhead cost from your grants.
